Frequently Asked Questions

Do you hire summer students?

Hiring for summer positions is based on the needs of the individual units. As requests for students are received by the Human Resources Department, résumés are pulled from our inventory and will then be sent to the Manager/Director for review. The Hiring Manager/Director is responsible for contacting individuals for an interview.

There is nothing on the website that I qualify for. What should I do?

We encourage you to submit your résumé. We keep all submitted résumés for a period of six months. If you have not received a call within six months and are still interested in employment with CHEO, then please visit the Job Inventories section and reapply.

I have submitted my résumé by email/fax/in person. Did you receive it?

Human Resources requests that if you have submitted your résumé by e-mail, fax or in person, that you not submit it again by other means. Please be assured that your résumé has been received and in the event of an error (e.g. forgotten attachment), you will be notified.

I applied to one of the postings on the website. Do I need to apply to each posting individually? Will I be contacted automatically or do I need to follow up?

You must apply to each position. Please ensure to indicate the competition number in your cover letter. Only applicants who meet the posted essential qualifications may be contacted at the discretion of the Hiring Manager/Director. It is not necessary to follow up, as Human Resources will forward the résumé of those who best meet the essential qualifications to the hiring Manager/Director as soon as they are received.

Pet Therapy Program

In CHEO's Pet Therapy program, trained therapy dogs help cheer up our patients and help them feel less isolated. Patients can hold or pet the dogs. And since dogs make great listeners, the children and youths can talk to the animals as much as they want, which gives them a chance to express their emotions. It's just one more way CHEO makes its patients' hospital stay a bit more like home.
