The CHEO Psychiatry Associates (the CPA), in partnership with the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine, the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Research Institute, invites applications for a Research Chair position in the Child and Youth Mental Health research program.
The CHEO Research Institute is an Affiliated Research Institute of the University of Ottawa and is the research arm of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. As a major health services and patient-centered care research organization, the CHEO Research Institute is dedicated to finding solutions to mental health problems and the development of promising practices to improve clinical care of children and adolescents with mental health conditions.
The Research Chair will play a pivotal role in building capacity for research in clinical psychiatry or mental health services within the CPA, the CHEO Research Institute and the Faculty of Medicine. The Chair will be expected to conduct rigorous, relevant, and innovative research that drives knowledge to action in the area of child and youth mental health.
The successful candidate will be expected to lead an independent and innovative research program in the area of child and youth clinical psychiatry or mental health services. This could include: developing or testing innovative treatments; developing or validating psychiatric assessments or outcomes measurement procedures; developing or implementing preventive interventions; or working to improve mental health care service delivery for children, youth and their families. The successful candidate will receive an academic appointment within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Ottawa, and an appointment as Scientist within the CHEO Research Institute.
Title of the position: Research Chair in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Duties: The successful candidate will be provided with 0.6 FTE research time and 0.4 FTE for clinical duties as a child and adolescent psychiatrist at CHEO. The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions: a) research; b) teaching activities; c) academic service activities, d) supervision of graduate students.
Terms: 5-year term position, renewable.
Wage: $260,000-$350,000/year (remuneration varies depending on university rank, academic and clinical productivity); 6 weeks paid vacation; 2 weeks paid conference time; financial support for conference attendance.

Relocation expenses: Successful candidate is eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with CHEO Research Institute policy.

- Education: MD or MD/PhD in child and adolescent psychiatry is essential.
- Work experience: Over 5 years of exceptional productivity and a demonstrated excellent research track record of innovation in clinical psychiatry or mental health services research. A strong track record in interdisciplinary collaboration, resourcefulness, and excellent communication skills in either English or French. English-French bilingualism is an asset.
