The incumbent in this position has a shared responsibility in a two member team for the seamless transfer of neonatal patients from rural and regional hospitals, tertiary care institutions and remote locations. The Neonatal Transport Nurse is recognized as an expert clinician with demonstrated knowledge, skills, critical thinking, team work, and problem solving skills. Key responsibilities include: advanced patient assessment, stabilization and interventions working under medical directives approved by the Transport Medical Director and functioning as an ambassador of CHEO.


  • Police Record Check (PRC) (Essential)
  • Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario (Essential)
  • BScN/BN or educational pursuits towards nursing degree (Essential)
  • Current NRP and BCLS certification (Essential)
  • Minimum of 2 years of Level III Neonatal Intensive Care experience and/or minimum of 5 years of Pediatric Intensive Care experience; 2 years experience as a certified Transport Nurse (Essential)
  • Successful completion of approved courses in the care of the At-Risk Infant (Preferred)
  • Successful completion of approved courses in Antenatal and/or Intrapartum care (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills (Essential)
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills (Essential)
  • Demonstrated commitment to on-going professional development (Essential)
  • Demonstrated ability to function appropriately in emergency situations (Essential)
  • Demonstrated ability to function at a highly autonomous level in an unfamiliar setting with an unfamiliar team (Essential)
  • Demonstrated adaptability and creativity in problem solving (Essential)
  • Flexibility in scheduling with the ability to extend the shift based on needs of the transport (Essential)
  • Comfortable with ground ambulance, rotor and fixed wing aircraft modes of transportation (Essential)
  • Bilingualism in English and French (Preferred)
