Life in Ottawa

The best of all worlds

Ottawa, the capital city of Canada, is located in the province of Ontario, close to other urban centres such as Toronto and Montreal. It's one of the great places to live in Canada, a bilingual city where French and English are spoken, and home to a great number of international citizens.

A bright workforce is a key foundation for a smart city. The city's academic foundations – from its strong public school system to universities, colleges and Research and Development centres of excellence – contribute to Ottawa having the most educated workforce in Canada, which makes for an especially stimulating work environment.

Live, work and play

Ottawa's vibrancy makes it one of the ideal places to live, work and play. The city is graced with innumerable green spaces, parklands and trails, including the spectacular Gatineau Park, located in Quebec right across the Ottawa river. There's also a wealth of cultural delights to enjoy. World-class performances, concerts and exhibits are presented by Ottawa's National Arts Centre, Scotiabank Place and the National Gallery of Canada.

Ottawa boasts the Rideau Canal, a National Historic Site of Canada, a Canadian Heritage River and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of the most scenic waterways in North America.

For sports enthusiasts, Ottawa is home to the Ottawa Senators, an NHL team which has frequently made it to the Stanley Cup playoffs -- “Go Sens Go!”

Recreational facilities are located throughout the city, with many parks, bicycle paths, jogging trails and swimming pools. Recreation enthusiasts will certainly find something to keep themselves occupied and active with all of the outdoor and indoor sports available.

Truly cosmopolitan, Ottawa celebrates its heritage with many colourful, multicultural festivals and events throughout the year including Winterlude, the Tulip Festival, Jazz Festival and Blues Festival, to name a few.

Ottawa has all the offerings of a large city but has also managed to maintain the accessibility, atmosphere and charm of a small friendly town with a strong sense of community. It's fair to say that Ottawa is a fantastic city to live in – whether you're single, newly married, raising a family or enjoying retirement.
