CHEO recognized as a Top Employer in region for 8th year

Feb. 1, 2019—OTTAWA— For the eighth time, CHEO has been recognized as one of the National Capital Region’s Top Employers. The 2019 Top Employers list includes organizations from across the region that are at the forefront of their respective industries.

The National Capital Region’s Top Employers 2019 list is the 14th annual competition evaluating and recognizing exceptional places to work in the Ottawa area. CHEO is one of two health-care workplaces to make the list in Ottawa.

“CHEO is committed to providing the best life for every child and youth, but we also strive to make our organization accessible, welcoming and rewarding for our staff members with comprehensive benefits, recognition and skill development opportunities. We want to make them proud to be part of CHEO,” says Alex Munter, CHEO’s President and CEO.

CHEO continuously meets many of the Top Employers selection criteria, offering a supportive environment for staff and their families, as well as the children, youth and families we serve in our region. CHEO provides competitive salaries, maternity and paternity leave top-up payments, and on-the-job learning and orientation sessions that allow employees to continuously learn and grow.

Top Employers also recognized CHEO for providing tuition subsidies for their staff, encouraging employees to continue to pursue education — whether it’s related to their current position or not. This flexibility is just one of the things that makes CHEO an excellent place to work.

“All of our more than 3,000 staff and physicians are passionate about supporting children, youth and their families,” says Alex Munter. “By ensuring employees can continue to learn and advance their knowledge in numerous ways, we’re making sure that the children and youth in our care have access to cutting-edge, innovative new treatments, therapies and technologies."

In previous years CHEO has been named one of Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures in the public sector, an award given out by Waterstone Human Capital. CHEO was named the best place to work in Canadian health care and social services in 2016 and 2017 by Forbes Magazine, and among the top 10 in 2018 and 2019.
