If you do not have health insurance through a provincial Health Card or private insurance, the hospital's Finance Department must be contacted to make suitable arrangements. The Finance Department (Patient Accounts) is open from Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is located on the first floor. Payments may be made using cash, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, debit or Unionpay.

Please note that CHEO does not accept Interac e-Transfer. If you would like to pay your invoice electronically, please do as a Payee for Online Bill payment. If you bank with any of the following institutions and have access to online banking, you can pay CHEO invoices online: RBC,TD, Scotiabank, Bank of Montreal, CIBC, National Bank, Desjardins.

You can also pay online via credit card.

Ambulance charges: The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care sets a charge of $240 for using an ambulance. This amount is reduced to $45 if you are:

  • A resident of Ontario with a valid Ontario Health Card, and
  • Using the ambulance was medically necessary (usually determined by the attending physician)

If you are not an insured resident, or if using the ambulance was not medically necessary, the hospital is required to charge you the full $240.
