Services for School-Aged Children/Youth
OCTC offers a range of services to school-aged children and youth, including therapeutic-based groups, social work, therapy, psychology, and recreation therapy, along with transition to adult services.

Many of these services are provided through our community partners such as the Champlain Community Care Access Centre (CCAC), various school boards, the City of Ottawa, the YMCA and other recreation-focused services. Please mention your interest in this program when you contact Intake Services.

"I think my family member may enjoy recreation activities, but we are having a hard time finding activities in the community that would suit their special needs."

Recreation Therapy
Our goal is to provide the skills and resources for each individual to successfully participate in meaningful recreation in their community, if they are not already able to do so.

We offer group programs, and some individual consultation, where eligible clients can try new recreation activities to discover their interests or to build life skills.

Recent programs have included: an outdoor adventure featuring white water rafting; adapted sports such as waterskiing, sledge hockey and wheelchair tennis; a swimming program for children with autism spectrum disorders; and a photography course where participants displayed their works of art at their own 'vernissage'.

Some programs are offered in collaboration with community agencies such as the YMCA-YWCA and Ottawa School of Speech & Drama. We also run Teens Clubs in Ottawa and Cornwall, where clients can meet new friends and take part in a variety of teen-oriented activities and excursions.

OCTC Recreation Therapy offers summer camps in partnership with the National Capital YMCA-YWCA; however we do not run on site summer camps.  This program integrates children with various disabilities into typical YMCA day camps across the city.  Only current clients of OCTC Recreation Therapy, whose goals align with this program and who are deemed appropriate by their Recreation Therapist are personally invited to attend this program.

Recreation Therapy does have an extensive list of community resources for summer programming available to families upon request.

Please note that referrals to Recreation Therapy must be made directly by the client/family. We will no longer accept referrals from service providers. Some exceptions may apply (eg: client/family does not speak English or French).

Mention your interest in Recreation Therapy when you contact Intake Services or, for more information and to determine your eligibility for Recreation Therapy, please contact Ashley Hilliard, Program Assistant: 613-688-2126, ext. 4333
